Beautiful Erromango - Day 3

Here are some shots of lovely Williams Bay village.

We walked across the river one time, it's only knee deep at most, but our hosts were most surprised that we wanted to. Most times we were driven in the truck. Our bungalow was on one side and the village on the other.

A magnificent banyan tree.

The island trading ship just disappearing in the distance. It had already unloaded some of its cargo before we got to see it, but the rest of the goods for Williams Bay were packed at the bottom of the ship, so it was heading down to Tanna and then Aneityum to unload what was on top, and wouldn't return to Williams Bay for at least another week! It only comes once a month, less if the sea is rough! So the people have a very long wait for supplies at times.

A traditional house being built.

A very tidy garden.

Bron and me at the yacht club.

Bron wanted to check out some other accommodation choices. The yacht club is one, not completed yet. They seriously need a NZ flag in there!

This man was carving a new axe handle.

Roofing panels drying in the sun.

A very old traditional house. Some people still prefer to live like this.

Massive mango trees everywhere. Pity it was not mango season.

The main road through the village. No need to look out for traffic - only 3 trucks in the village and one of them doesn't go.

We met with the elders of the Presbyterian Church one evening, and they were a delight to talk with.

The church members put on a lovely dinner for us.

All too soon it was time to say goodbye,

to every child!

Back to the airport, with Bron whooping noisily!

Goodbye beautiful Erromango.

Hello bustling Port Vila.
