Some Local Wildlife.

We had some excitement at the PCV Office on Wednesday.  I (Martyn) was working in the office and there were squeals and shouts from outside the office behind the PCV Health offices.  The shouting and squeals became louder, so I went outside to investigate.

A large snake was the cause of all the commotion.  The snakes in Vanuatu are boa constrictors, and they probably came into Vanuatu as pets, then they escaped or were released  Vanuatu does not have any native land snakes.  There are only a few islands that have snakes. Efate,Santo and Malakua  are the ones I am aware of that have snakes.

There are some sea snakes in the waters around Vanuatu

Man Tanna (men from Tanna) don't see snakes on Tanna, so the lads from Tanna were freaking out, no names will be mentioned to save the embarrassment of those involved.

Sarafina was the one called on to bring the snake out into the open so that Morris could kill the snake with a adze

The snake was over a metre long and probably about as thick as someones wrist.  I thought afterwards if we could have captured the snake alive, I would have released it in a big banyan tree near our home that has a large rat colony in it,  I saw about 10 rats a few weeks ago running back to the tree from a rubbish bag.
