Busy Week at the Office.
No gallivanting this week, just catching up on paperwork. More survey forms to be scanned before they were taken back to Australia, and various reports to be typed up for Assembly which starts in 2 weeks.
We had the pleasure of Gareth and Alicja (Polish spelling of Alicia, but she isn't Polish) Nolan staying with us for about 10 days. They have been working up on Paama Island for about 18 months, Gareth teaching and Alicja working with people with disabilities. Their time here in Vanuatu was finished but they had people in Vila to say goodbye to, so our flat was their base. They are a lovely couple, and have done amazing work while living in far more trying conditions than ours - our flat was a welcome respite for them. They were very naughty leaving us some tasty treats which we did't discover till after we had said our goodbyes in town and got home and found later.
Most of the survey team from the last 2 weeks had departed back to Australia, but Dr Anne Stewart stayed on for an extra week, joined by her husband Dr Don Stewart, also a dentist.
He thought he was here for a holiday, and mostly he was, but Anne had volunteered him for one day's work at PCV Health, where we treated approx 26 people, many of them children we had seen on the survey over the last couple of weeks. Most people arrived fairly early in the morning so some of them had a very long wait. The waiting room overflowed out onto the driveway.
On their last evening here, Anne and Don very kindly took us out for dinner at the Ramada Resort. We were joined by Elder Richard and his wife Rosie (in the centre). Richard is the head of PCV Health, and Deb Allen (left) is an Australian volunteer who has been working with PCV Health for 3 years now, she joined us for a drink after dinner.
Friday night at the Ramada has a buffet dinner, and group from Futuna Island performing string band music and custom dancing.
Anne also gave us these beautiful flowers. She was very grateful for my help on the survey team, don't know why 😏. They had to sit in a bucket overnight because we didn't have a vase till we bought one this morning!
