Medical Sailing Ministries Mission 4 Update
The Chimere sailed from Ambae Island to Maewo Island on Tuesday to anchor off a bay at Naravorovoro (yes that is how the village name is spelt, the keyboard didn't get stuck). The village were they carried out the survey is Nasawa, close to Naravorovoro. The trip to Maewo Island took about 1.5 hours. It was a bit choppy, Annette didn't suffer from the effects of seasickness.
The team photo on their arrival at the village of Nasawa. This will be the first night that the team will stay ashore.
This container is a Fatmax and stores the equipment for the survey. Must suggest to Annette these would be a good buy for my garage back in new Zealand
It opens so that the equipment can be easily accessed, very clever
Kava roots being chopped to make kava
The hospital where the survey is setup for the day, including bassinets (not part of the survey equipment.)
The weather has been cloudy and rain for the last few days. They are not heading to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
These mangoes are nearly ready to eat. The team have been supplied with some bamboo poles to get some mangoes down, they hope they will ripen in the next few days.
This is a photo I took in Vila on Tuesday of the setting sun. The sun looked like the moon, in fact I could look at the sun. It is about 5.15pm still about another 30 minutes to sunset. I am no weather expert or volcanologist (I leave that to Kirsty), but in my view this is the effect of the increased volcanic activity in Vanuatu over the last few weeks. There are no active volcanoes on the Island of Efate, the nearest volcanoes are some 40 minutes flying time away. The main active volcanoes are on Tanna to the south, and Gaua, Ambrym and Ambae Islands to the north.
