Saturday - Round the Island Tour for Nicola and Jai
We turned tour guides for the weekend. We had the use of the PCV truck and took Nicola and Jai around Efate showing them all the places we have been.
First stop was Eden on the River, a beautiful garden run by a Kiwi couple. Our guide Ruth told us about the uses of several of the plants.
The garden runs down to Rentapao River where there is a swing bridge, flying fox, and swimming hole. The water is really clear but we didn't swim there though.
We had a lovely morning tea at the cafe there, and they had an iguana to get up close and personal with.
Next stop was a pretty little beach just before Eton Beach, time for a photo op.
Then Eton beach where we had a walk around the reef, followed by a lovely swim in the sea and a picnic lunch. Here are some of Jai's photos of the reef.
We took them to visit Max at Rongdale School. The school has grown from 31 pupils when we visited 2 years ago to 48 I think now. Max and his family still run it with no formal training in teaching and relying solely on donations and whatever the family farm can earn - amazing!
We showed them Epule and Onesua where I have done a bit of work, then further round we stopped for a snack at Beach Comber Resort - not inhabited due to Cyclone Pam. We were joined by 3 very skinny dogs, all very hungry but not aggressive. The front one is just a bag of bones - a very sad sight.
We finished off at Havanah Harbour for some snorkeling in the late afternoon sun. The bay was smooth as a mill pond, and there were loads of pretty fish - forgot to take any photos though! Ah, well, we are going back there on Monday morning 😀
