A cyclone warning has been issued for Vanuatu. It isn't strong enough to be given a name yet. We are at home making sure that we are prepared. The cyclone is tracking south, and is close to the northern islands of Vanuatu, It is due to come close to Shefa Province (us) tomorrow afternoon and evening. For the last 24 hours we have had strong winds and rain.
The shutters sit in tracks. Just slide 20mm thick plywood in place. You can see one shutter in place on this photo
Outside our front door, the photo doesn't show the effect of the strong wind, the plants are moving around in the wind.
Some of our store of food and water. We have a gas stove (bottle supply) so we are able to cook if the electricity fails. We have good supply of food. The bananas aren't the same as the ones we get in the supermarkets in New Zealand. These ones are about twice the diameter, and a bit shorter. These ones came for a big bunch from the banana palms on the property we live on.
They grow in big bunches. Did you know that the banana is a berry?
The banana is an edible fruit – botanically a berry – produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants in the genus Musa. In some countries, bananas used for cooking may be called plantains, in contrast to dessert bananas
